POMPEII TOUR (Approximately 2 hours)

At the feet of the Vesuvius, in the Province of Naples, stands Pompeii, Italy’s largest and most evocative archaeological site. Pompeii  was an important node during the Roman Empire,  but it was destroyed by the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, which erased all traces of life and covered this vast area with a thick blanket of ash and lapilli. The digs to uncover the remains of the city only began in the middle of the 18th century, and today these excavations  are an important tourist attraction. Pompeii is a must for those who wish to walk down the streets of an ancient  roman city and visit the merchants’ houses and the villas of the nobility that are still intact, such as the Villa of Mysteries, situated right outside the archaeological area, or the House of the Vettii and the House of the Faun.  The city center hosts the archeological area, but you will also find  the  Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, visited by four millions of pilgrims each year.

The guided visit lasts approximately 2 hours during which the last moments following the Vesuvius’eruption will be retraced even through personal stories suggested by the remains that have been found in the excavations and, following the account of the eruption, we will have the chance to review this fragment of ancient Rome, where time seems to have stopped.

ERCOLANO TOUR (Approximately 2 hours)

Herculaneum boasts an enchanting position right at the center of the Gulf of Naples and enjoys  the great importance of its priceless heritage represented by the excavations of the ancient Herculaneum, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Therefore the guided tour of Herculaneum, in the province of Naples, can’t overlook thearcheological site. The ruins owe their good fortune to the way how the city was buried:  submerged by a river of volcanic mud that, solidifying, determined an absolutely original conservation phenomenon, incomparable to Pompeii. For this reason, organic evidence have survived to this day (burned cereals and legumes, cloths, furnitures and parts of wooden buildings), but also the upper  floors of buildings that give us a clear idea of what  the construction sizes and techniques used to be, allowing us to retrace the history of roman houses throughout almost 3 centuries, from the II century BC to the eruption in 79 AD. The discovery of ancient Hercolaneum dates back to 1709 thanks to the excavation works ordered by the austrian prince of Elboeuf who wanted to create a well in his garden. The first proper excavation work, ordered by king Charles of Bourbon, started only in  1738 and revealed the city that, however, is still in part buried underneath  the modern Herculaneum, as shown by the Villa of the Papyri that is only reachable through  a tight tunnel. Herculaneum, however, isn’t only its archeological excavations. The villas that are lined along the “Golden Mile “  (the name with which the ancient road Via Regia ,known for the beautiful surroundings and the rich structures, once used to be called), among which we recall Villa Campolieto and Villa Favorita, are also worth seeing . Those who love shopping will appreciate the famous secondhand market (the Market of Resina), where clothes and military excess are sold. It takes place every day, except Sunday, between the small streets and squares of via Putigliano. It took place for the firts time during  the Second World War, in 1944, when, in this neapolitan center , items and clothes smuggled from the american convoys where sold, and it grew in the following years.

The guided visit lasts approximately 2 hours during which you will discover an incredibly fascinating world where you will feel an almost unreal atmosphere, where time seems to have stopped.
